Whats on this week

Gill finished work today for the hols. Good ..she is a bit burnt!
Im not off until 11th. Bit of a cock up.When booking my leave forgot about this set of hols and all the others had taken them off. ..so I can only get the second week. Guess what..it'll be the last time that happens to me..hehe. Anyway we are off to Dara O'Brien on Friday with Tom and Emma...Ive got seats in the stalls but far enough back that he doesnt take the p&*s. Then off on Saturday to see War Horse at the New LOndon Theatre just off Covent Garden with the Pascoes. What a good weekend in store ..makes a change from rugby..missing the welsh boys already but looking forward to the SA game coming up in the late summer.Adrian Rutherford wants to come so we'll take the old boy for a day out! JUst missed a rather lovely wainscot chair on ebay by £3 one of those moments that I wished we'd bid a bit higher but heyho!
38 days until I wave the job goodbye.

Tom and Emma moved in

Lazy day today. House very Q..all moved out..except Gill of cse!
Popped round to see Tom and Emma in their new abode. Was amazed how much work theyve done in 24 hrs. Put a few pictures up and popped to B&Q against my best nature. Got a £60 ticket for leaving the car park this year. Should have challenged it really and would have done if Id not been in the Job.House looks excellent. Im sure Maddock will approve when he returns from kennels. Was laughing with Tom..theres a black cat in the neighbourhood who walks across the garden regularly...not anymore little baby! We had visions of claw marks in the fence the first time it meets the old boy......!Should reduce it by one life. Tom has to put the kennel up tomorrow ..will try to finish early if I can. I see Dragons beat Ospreys..what a team of underperformers.10 of the welsh team and additional Lions..Tommy Bowe etc but unable to really do it.

All alone

Well its finally happened..I got left alone with Poppy yesterday. Shaun had his leaving do so I came in handy.Yes! I decided to take Poppy to see Chris Pascoe to let her experience old buffers talk! She loved Chris the little flirt, smiling and laughing. She had a feed and played..easy eh.I took her home and she started crying..about 90 mins after her feed..cant be hungry I thought..shes warm , dry so hey get on with it Poppy have a sleep or something..no she cried and cried then..Laura rang..try her with some milk dad....so I did..5 mins later asleep
drinking it...! Have I lost my touch..course not just relearning..anyway I did smile. She then woke up as if nothing had happened about 7.30pm after 2 hours..we had to wake her up for a feed and a bath. We did laugh..it was like a doormouse coming out of the winter. She had a bath then it was asleep and the morning.Anyway being the sad old doting grandad I took a few snaps...heres one.

Whats coming up

Ive offered to look after Poppy on Friday for Laura and Shaun. Its Shauns leaving do in Colchester. No doubt lots of orange juice and lemonades..bit like me in Dublin....me being a teetotaller now! I dont think so!Really looking forward to it shes such a sweetie.
I think itll be my first revist of the crappy nappy change tho'.
Tom and Emma move into their new house in the Marina on Saturday next too so everyone is now sorted out and me and Gill will be like 2 peas rattling round. Madoc is going too...will really miss the banter we have particularly at dinner..hehe. Gill wont though, acting as referee on policing issues.
In my last week in the job Ive decided to finish it how Ive started it largely with a day walking on patrol with Scott in Eastbourne. I still remember driving to work for my first night there almost 30 years ago to join the section all full of trepidation but they were good guys..lets see if I can remember a few names..Alec Stanford, Chris Cragg, Dave Reade, Paul Cummings, Dave Bowley, John Lewis the very old style dinosaur Sgt who was Welsh! All finished 30 years too..it was a vocation/career then not like the 11 year average we now have.Sad.
Im also hoping to go Public Order training and have me and Tom petrol bombed ..must take my camera for some pics. Im also hoping to go on patrol with Tom and his dog. We did patrol together for a week in Brighton two years ago.I showed him how to do it! Haha no I didnt..he tutored me and made sure some of the old style traditional policing didnt emerge! It was excellent and made me proud that we did it together. Reminds me of the time I took L&T out to lunch when i was in charge of Eastbourne on a day off. I suggested post dinner that we walk in the town and Laura said 'only if u 2 dont start checking people'. 50 yards later Tom identified a Hastings main player who was wanted so the 3 of us arrested him after a foot follow in Seaside I do laugh. Tom ended up getting double time off my budget for RD . Me and Laura did it for the love of the job and all that.Tom sent me his statement which I was going to frame but sadly I have lost.Id really loved to have gone on patrol with Laura too but its not possible her being in the Met etc.

Nearly there!

Interesting week at work!
Sat down today and worked out that I actually have 40 working days left in the job.
I have decided not to have a leaving do when I go. Whilst Ive done some exceptional leaving speeches over the years myself (self confidence was never an issue!), Ive decided to just go quietly and turn off the light as I go.Actually hoping noone realises Ive actually gone on the particular date..hehe.The family (my mates), will be coming to a do we've booked the first Saturday after my official retirement date in July.I might have some select mates to a small garden party but havent decided yet.
People at work have been asking me what's happening and its quite amusing to tell them Im going quietly. All protest that I cant! So funny. It would have been different if Id still been in Brighton, Im not and thats now how I feel and Ive long ago decided to do things for my reasons not to ingratiate etc with others.I know what those closest to me feel and thats the bottom line and its the way I want to do it.
I have however driven 200 miles since Monday all over Sussex..even though its nice in the new BM.I wont miss innocuously driving round the County trying to miss the peak times on the A27 West! Off on the Public Order Commanders regional seminar tomorrow 6am pickup..phew..me doing early turn..whats going on. Do I need to go? someone asked ..well its not what I take from it its what I give to it after 30 years of doing it of which Im really proud. I dont suspect many of them delivered on the G20 now did they! so we shall see what the academics think the direction should be! In best Mills shrinking violet style I'll voice an opinion Im sure.

As I said we were going to Laura and Shauns in Maidstone. We got there having seen Maidstone a few times due to Ipod satnav probs. Not a good driving weekend all in all! Anyway Poppy and the house were both worth it when we got there. Had an excellent Sunday roast too..yum yum!
Walked around maidstone for the first time..not being last of the top shoppers other than on the internet i was impressed. Only 45 minutes drive back. So much easier than Colchester!

Gill woke up with a heavy cold.Thats what comes of taking her out for the day!
I knew seeing Wales win would be too much for her. She is convinced that when James Hook scored his try that he recognised her in the crowd and threw the ball at her..as if!
Anyway off to see Laura, Shaun and Poppy shortly. They moved into their new house in Maidstone last wednesday.Must take the camera and get some new fotos of Pops.

Saturday, 20 March 2010

Good day in Cardiff yesterday....but it took 6 hrs to get from Sussex in the morning..half the problem was that I drove 50 miles then remembered that Id not got the 4 tickets so turnaround...what a pain.
Worth it to get there though..great 2nd half with all the tries right in front of us. Took 75 excellent fotos with the new camera as u can see I posted a great charge down on our line.Well done the boyos.....about time. Have seen all the games except the French this season so much promise but little actual delivery. Back on track now..ish! Still think we will get stuffed by South Africa and New Zealand in June etc.

Wales Italy

Off to Caerdydd tomorrow for the game with Tanner etc.Looking forward to it with high hopes. All the Lions front row are back and Mike Phillips. Debut to Tom Prydie at 18yrs and 25 days..biggest crowd he's played with before 500! ..now its 72500! I think Wales will win by 25 points with 4 tries..hope springs eternal. Sold the Jag at auction tonight goes part of the way to paying for the BMW..yippee
